This data sheet provides information about the Ovation™ Power Supply System (5X00489G01) developed by Emerson. The system features redundant power configurations with separate external wide-range AC or DC feeds, separate main and auxiliary supplies, dual wide-range input capabilities, diode auctioneered power feeds, high-efficiency power supplies, modular fanless systems, redundant power feeds to each controller chassis and I/O modules, and continuous system monitoring.
The Ovation controller powering system uses redundant configurations with separate AC and/or DC input feeds. Dual diode auctioneered 24 VDC outputs are used to power the controller chassis, associated I/O modules, loops, and contact wetting. A 48 VDC auxiliary power can also be provided if required. Two separate output schemes are available: 24 VDC / 10 A / 240 W main and auxiliary power, and 24 VDC / 20 A / 480 W main and auxiliary power.
The benefits of the Ovation power supply scheme include easy replacement of separate main and auxiliary power supplies, reduced failure risks due to the elimination of cooling fans, continuous power availability assured by diode auctioneered power feeds, increased efficiency, reduced heat generation, and enhanced equipment life expectancy. The dual input capability reduces spare parts, hot-swappable power supplies enable online replacement, quick installation minimizes downtime and production loss, and power factor correction reduces power consumption.
The 10-amp powering scheme includes redundant power supply configurations with separate 10-amp main and auxiliary power supplies, a power distribution module, and a back-plate with pre-mounted DIN-rails. The 20-amp powering scheme includes redundant supply configurations with separate 20-amp main and auxiliary power supplies, an auctioneering diode, a power distribution terminal strip, and a back-plate with pre-mounted DIN-rails. The 20-amp power scheme increases the power available to the Ovation controller and I/Os to 480 W.
The powering module characteristics for both the 10-amp and 20-amp modules are provided, including AC and DC inputs, DC outputs, EMC and certifications, environment, safety, and protection features. The nominal AC input voltage for both is 100–240 VAC, with an AC input voltage range of 85 to 264 VAC and a DC input voltage range of 90 to 375 VDC. The frequency is 43 to 67 Hz, and the power factor correction is active to better than 0.92. The nominal voltage for the DC outputs is 24 V (adjustable within 23.5–28.5 VDC), with a tolerance of <±2% overall. The initial voltage setting is 24.5V ±1%. The output ripple is < 50 mVpp for the 10-amp module and < 100 mVpp for the 20-amp module. Overvoltage protection is provided, and the hold-up time tolerance is > 20 ms. The time and temperature drift is <1.0%.
The EMC emissions and immunity standards are listed, and the modules are certified with CE Mark, UL, IECEx, and RoHS Compliant. The environment specifications include storage and operation temperature ranges, with derating at higher temperatures. The safety features include protection against continuous short-circuit, continuous overload, and open circuit, with a protection class of IP20 and safe low voltage of SELV. Status indicators with 3 LEDs (input, output, alarm) are provided, and the inputs are internally fused. The outputs are capable of providing high currents for short periods for inductive load startup or switching, and fusing may be required for certain wire/loads.
In conclusion, the Ovation™ Power Supply System offers a reliable and stable power solution for the Ovation™ controller and I/O modules, with various features and benefits to ensure efficient and continuous operation.
