The Bently Proximitor Sensor is a eddy-current approach displacement sensor produced by Bentley. Its working principle is that when the coil at the top of the probe is combined with a high frequency current and is close to a conductive surface, due to the action of the coil magnetic field line, the surface of the conductive object generates eddy currents, thus reducing the inductance of the coil. This change in coil characteristics is converted into a DC voltage signal output.
The output voltage provided by the system is proportional to the distance between the tip of the probe and the observed conductive surface, and both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) values can be measured. The main applications of this system are vibration and position measurement of fluid film bearing machines, as well as key phase reference and velocity measurement. Each 3300 XL 8 mm sensor system component is backward compatible and interchangeable with other non-XL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm sensor system components. This compatibility includes 3300 5 mm probes for applications where 8 mm probes are too large for available mounting space.
